DES received recognition as being named one of the best schools in the state of Alabama for reading instruction.

The school was recognized as a Science of Reading Spotlight School. There were only 11 other schools in the state awarded this title by the Alabama Department of Education.

Ms. Miller, Principal of DES, stated this was a result of all the efforts of the DES staff and the support of the district office staff. She continued to express sincere appreciation and praise for the teachers at the school.
