food service, and construction provide major job opportunities. The county is located 90 miles south of the Atlanta Metropolitan

area; 80 miles southeast of Birmingham; and, 40 miles northeast of Montgomery, the State capital.  We have two major transportation

corridors bordering or running through the county--Interstate 85 in the south and Highway 280 runs through the northern part of the county.

The Tallapoosa County Board of Education employs 362 workers with 238 being certified employees. Our teaching staff is our strength.

99% of our teachers are Highly Qualified (HQ) with only three not certified in the subjects, they are teaching.

We have an HQ plan for each of them to become certified this year.  We have a monthly payroll of over 1.6 million dollars with much

of that being spent in Tallapoosa County. The Board of Education spends on average $150,000 monthly in the Tallapoosa County

business community. This makes us one of the major economic engines in the area.
